Winter Weather Canceled For Metro Atlanta
No Snow Expected In Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Snow was falling in parts of Alabama early Monday, but Atlanta was spared after earlier forecasts called for up to 2 inches. Overnight temperatures stayed above freezing and it rained instead of snowing before dawn Monday.A winter weather advisory for Metro Atlanta was canceled and the winter storm warning for North Georgia was downgraded to a winter weather advisory through noon.Still, GDOT crews in metro Atlanta arrived to work at 4 a.m., three hours ahead of schedule in preparation of icing. Even though no problems were reported today, GDOT spokesperson Crystal Paulk-Buchanan said the agency is ready if and when bad weather strikes."We'll be getting more material sometime this week because we are expecting some additional wet precipitation to come in perhaps later in the week," said Paulk-Buchanan.While traffic may be bad, it may not be as bad as it could have been. Schools and some offices will be closed Monday for the President's Day holiday.The National Weather Service said northern Alabama could see up to 3 inches. Snow was also forecast up through Tennessee to Kentucky.Atlanta and other cities ill-equipped to deal with icy roads and snow were hit by a storm Friday and Saturday. The storm canceled thousands of flights at the country's busiest airport in Atlanta and was blamed for hundreds of traffic accidents.Click here to get free E-Mail weather alerts.
