CBS Atlanta and Peachtree TV have entered into a partnership with the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, produced by It's The Journey.
The 2013 event will take place on Oct. 5 and 6.
It's The Journey is a local organization founded 10 years ago by a breast cancer survivor, Randi Passoff.
When the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk pulled out of Atlanta in 2002, Randi, a longtime walker, decided that Atlanta needed a fundraising event where all of the funds stayed local to support Georgia breast cancer patients and breast health programs.
She created the kinder and gentler breast cancer walk.
Instead of the three-day model of walking 60 miles over three days and sleeping in a tent, the Atlanta 2-Day Walk covers 30 miles over two days and participants sleep in a hotel.
Not only do two-day walkers stay in a plush hotel, they also have the option of walking both days and covering 30 miles, walking Saturday only and covering 20 miles, or walking Sunday only and covering 10 miles. Two-day walking teams may share and transfer funds.
The Saturday route of 20 miles will take participants from the host hotel downtown to Agnes Scott College in Decatur for lunch - and then back.
On Sunday, the 10-mile route will take participants from downtown to closing ceremonies at Atlantic Station.
