For the last several games of their season, the Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights soccer team has had reason to celebrate.
The team has finally been able to earn victories over some of the best teams in Georgia, leading them to the state finals against hated rival Stratford Saturday.
They hope one more celebration is in store, when they win the program's first state championship.
The Lady Eagles are the only team left to beat on Deerfield's checklist, and to win the state title on their rival's home field would make for a magical ending for the Lady Knights' seniors.
"It would be amazing because there would be a banner in the school gym," says senior defender Emily Murphy. "Your kids might go there and see and be like, 'Oh that was the first team,' and you can tell them I was on that first team, and I encourage you to do better."
The Lady Knights kick off against Stratford Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
