Report: Detention officer fired, performed sexual acts with inmate

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Investigators arrested a detention officer who allegedly sexually assaulted an inmate.

Zel Mitchell was charged with sexual assault on a person in custody, public indecency and violation of oath of office.

Investigators said Mitchell allegedly performed inappropriate sexual acts with a male inmate.

The acts were allegedly performed in exchange for food and other contraband items.

The inmate told detectives that he was not forced to participate in the acts.

Another inmate reported the incident to authorities, according to reports.

Mitchell has been terminated from the DeKalb Sheriff's Office and is in custody at the DeKalb County Jail.
