THOMASTON, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The cab driver was shot just a few days before Christmas in 2011.
Brandy Turner Guined of Thomaston picked up a fare sometime between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Dec. 21.
After she was shot, she tried to drive herself to the hospital but crashed and never made it.
Now her killer will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder.
On Monday, a jury found Dantazias Raines guilty on all nine charges, including murder.
He was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 19 years.
The victim's sister, Dawn Popple, is now raising the daughter she left behind, Dale Turner, 12.
Both were in the courtroom, along with other family members, when the verdict came down.
"When they said guilty, I was like, I started crying, my mom started, my aunt and my niece. My niece looked at me, and I said, ‘That means we're good. We're getting justice for your mama.' And she just started bawling, uncontrollable crying," said Popple.
The verdict and sentencing came just one day before the 15th-month anniversary of the murder.
The victim's family hopes to now move on from the trial, choosing only to remember the good in their loved one.
"She would go to work with a smile on her face and make everybody that she talked to feel like they were the most important person there. And I don't want anybody to ever forget that," said Popple.
Assistant district attorney, Ben Coker, told CBS Atlanta News he was pleased with the outcome of the case but called it "tragic for both families."
