Some Dunwoody parents planned on driving their children to school Wednesday instead of allowing them to walk. This after a girl spotted two men following her and acting suspiciously her as she walked home in the Springfield subdivision.
Officer Tim Fecht told CBS Atlanta News the incident happened on March 15 as the 12-year-old was going to her house. "When you're 12, you should be carefree and not have a worry in the world."
Investigators said an SUV with two men followed the girl, and every time she stopped, they stopped. "The driver got and went to the back of the vehicle, so she kept walking. She stopped again and the driver got out and went the passenger, or to the rear of the vehicle," said Fecht.
Fecht said after a third time the girl ran to a group of neighbors for help and the vehicle sped off.
Some neighbors told police they've seen the SUV in the past.
Rhonda Keen, a neighbor, called the young girl brave and told CBS Atlanta News that she plans to keep an extra eye on her daughter."I think what the young girl did was very smart. I think we need to be talking to our children about what they should do."
Investigators said the men were in an older model white SUV, possibly a Honda Passport or CRV. Police said the girl also remembered seeing two stickers on the back of the vehicle."One was a bumper sticker that said 'peace love and war'. There was also a large sticker in the middle of the window that was purple," said Fecht.
Police believe the men are 20 to 30 years old. They want to question them.
