LOGANVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man accused of a home invasion in Walton had a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
Investigators said Paul Slater pried his way into a family's home on Henderson Ridge Lane in January.
Once inside the home, Slater allegedly chased Melinda Herman and her children inside the home as her husband Donnie Herman called 911.
Donnie Herman wasn't at home during the incident, but he spoke to his wife on the phone while speaking to police on another line.
Melinda Herman and her children hid in a closet. When Slater busted down a door, she shot him five times with a .38 caliber handgun, according to police.
On Tuesday, the Judge signed a pre-trial order for Slater stating he must give his attorneys all the information he has concerning his defense including the contact information of any witnesses he may have.
He's charged with first-degree burglary and possession of tools for the commission of burglary.
Slater will have a motions hearing and status conference on April 2, at 8:30 a.m.
It will be the last day he can enter and negotiate a guilty plea or ask for a jury trial.
Slater is out on bond and his next trial date is April 15.
