ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Department of Defense has released the names of the five soldiers killed in a Black Hawk helicopter crash March 11 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Four male soldiers and one female soldier were killed when their chopper crashed. All five soldiers were assigned to a base in Savannah.
The names of the deceased are:
Staff Sgt. Steven P. Blass, 27, of Estherville, Iowa
Chief Warrant Officer Bryan J. Henderson, 27, of Franklin, LA
Capt. Sara M. Knutson, 27, of Eldersburg, MD
Staff Sgt. Marc A. Scialdo, 31, of Naples, FL
Spc. Zachary L. Shannon, 21, of Dunedin, FL
All five were stationed at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. and assigned to the 3rd Aviation Regiment, the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, and the 3rd Infantry Division.
Shannon, Henderson, and Blass were also assigned to the 4th Battalion. Knutson was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company while Scialdo was assigned to the 603rd Aviation Support Battalion.
The incident is under investigation.
