ATLANTA (AP) -

The president of Georgia Gwinnett College is stepping down to serve as president of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.

Daniel J. Kauffman has served as university president since 2005, before the school opened with a student body of 118 in August of 2006.

School spokeswoman Sally Ramey says the university built a library and learning center, three residence halls, and recently broke ground on a $30 million allied health and science building under Kauffman's tenure.

Kauffman graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1968.

He has a master's of public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a doctorate in philosophy in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Kauffman is set to leave his position June 30.
