Ga. police seeking tips in cemetery burglary

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -

Police in Savannah are still searching for a missing body they say was taken during a burglary at a local cemetery.

Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Julian Miller says officers were called east Savannah's Hillcrest Cemetery Monday after employees found two caskets that had been removed from their vaults inside a mausoleum.

Miller says one of the caskets had been damaged and the body of a woman who died in 2001 had been removed from another casket.

The woman's identity has not been released.

Miller says police used a cadaver dog and a helicopter to search cemetery grounds, surrounding areas and storm water canals for the missing body.

Tipsters are asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020. Miller says tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
