DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
After trying to appeal a sentence, a 44-year-old woman is now serving time for second-degree vehicular homicide in the death of an elementary school student.
Lithonia resident Shirley Ogilvie appeared in court on Wednesday.
She will now begin serving her sentence in the death of 7-year-old Kameron Dunmore.
Kameron was killed at a crosswalk on Feb. 2, 2009.
According to court documents, Ogilvie's SUV hit him at the intersection of South Deshon Road and Wildwood Trace in Lithonia.
Cameron was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died.
In November 2012, the Supreme Court of Georgia reversed a Court of Appeals decision and reinstated the conviction.
DeKalb County solicitor general Sherry Boston had sought further review of the case by the Supreme Court, after the Court of Appeals overturned it in November 2011.
In September 2010, a jury found Ogilvie guilty of second degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The judge sentenced Ogilvie to one year in jail.
