CONYERS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Annie Shepherd said her gold 1994 Honda Accord is her lifeline. It's the only transportation she has to get to and from work. That all changed Feb. 27 when her car was stolen.
"It has been terrible asking people for rides," Shepherd said.
Shepherd said she has been getting rides and catching cabs to get to work. For more than a week, she has paid $300 out of pocket.
"I was feeling like I got my own car, and I am paying other people to take me to work and I shouldn't have to do that," Shepherd said.
That changed Friday, when Shepherd said she was leaving the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Conyers and her daughter noticed a man in the parking lot driving her stolen Honda.
"My daughter said, 'That is your car momma, that is your car,'" Shepherd said.
Shepherd and her daughter called 911 and followed the suspect until Conyers police arrived.
Police charged Edward Simmons, 50, with possession of a stolen car, drug charges and felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the report, Simmons stated that he knew the car was stolen, but was borrowing it for a couple days from a friend.
The plates on Shepherd's car were switched out and came back registered to someone else's car.
Shepherd said this is the second time her car has been stolen. She said Simmons stole the radio but is thrilled she doesn't have to keep paying for rides.
"I am so happy," Shepherd said.
The car was recovered just a few miles from where it was initially stolen from.
