2 Forsyth councilmen indicted on bribery charges

FORSYTH, Ga. (AP) -

U.S. Attorney's officials say two Forsyth City Councilmen have been charged with bribery in a three-count federal indictment.

Authorities say 60-year-old James Edward Calloway and 35-year-old Desi Hansford presided over a subcommittee that was responsible for receiving bids and selecting a contractor to provide services to the City of Forsyth.

United States Attorney Michael Moore says Hansford and Calloway were paid $20,000 from an unidentified company between Dec. 27, 2012 and March 11, 2013 in exchange for influence over city contracting work.

Moore says Hansford has been a council member for six years and Calloway has served on city council for more than 20 years.

Calls to Calloway and Hansford were not answered Tuesday, and it is unclear if the men have lawyers.
