Suspect released in Athens hit-and-run investigation

ATHENS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The suspect behind a near fatal hit-and-run in Athens has been released from jail.

According to the Athens-Clarke County sheriff's website, William Wilson Heaton is no longer in custody.

Heaton faces several charges including DUI and hit-and-run.

Police say Heaton was driving a red truck when he hit and critically injured Emily Bowman last month while she walked along Oak Street in Athens.
