The suspect in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a Kennesaw State University student appeared in court Thursday.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Jail, William Wilson Heaton, 22, turned himself in Wednesday evening.
Police said Emily Bowman, 19, was hit by someone driving a red truck on Feb. 16 while she was walking in the grass near Oak Street in Athens.
Bowman was taken to a hospital in Athens, where she's been recovering from severe head injuries.
Police said they wanted to wait to arrest Heaton until they had a strong enough case against him.
On Wednesday, arrest warrants were signed for Heaton on the following charges: DUI, hit-and-run, serious injury by a vehicle, failure to maintain a lane, reckless driving and having an open container in a vehicle.
A judge granted bond to Heaton Thursday for $50,000. As a condition of Heaton's bond, he will have to wear a GPS monitoring system, and will have to surrender his driver's license for the immediate future. Heaton also will not be allowed to consume alcohol, or leave his residence after 9 p.m.
If you would like to help Bowman with her recovery, Buffalo's Cafe in Woodstock is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Ten percent of all food sales will go towards Bowman.
Buffalo's Cafe is located at 12035 Hwy. 92 in Woodstock.
