A neighborhood in Calhoun got hit by heavy winds that snapped trees in half and destroyed one family's two-car garage.
Gordon County EMA Director Richard Cooper told CBS Atlanta News that the storm that came through the area late Tuesday afternoon, damaged approximately 10 homes along Highway 53 and Blackwood Place Southeast.
Kaye James said she heard the rain, wind, thunder and lightning and then something else, a loud boom.
"It sounded like the whole roof was coming off the house. I mean I was actually shocked there wasn't any house damage," James said. "I hear something like a little train or something and I holler 'get to the hallway.'"
A few hundred yards away multiple trees fell on the home of Sierra Titus.
"I knew we needed to take cover," Titus said. "We can definitely replace a house, not a family member."
Despite a lot of downed trees and power lines, no one was hurt when the storm hit.
The National Weather Service said the damage was caused by straight-line thunderstorm winds. They will determine the wind speeds remotely and do not plan on sending a team to Gordon County.
