ATLANTA (AP) -

The Atlanta Preservation Center is beginning its "Phoenix Flies" celebration of area landmarks with the opening of a special photography project.

The center is planning a free kick-off celebration Friday at the 1854 Lemuel P. Grant Mansion on St. Paul Avenue in Atlanta.

The event includes the opening of a special photography exhibit at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The center commissioned eight Atlanta area photographers to create images of sites it is working to preserve.

Granville Automatic, which sings about American Civil War battles and other events from history, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday at the mansion as part of the kick-off event.

The Atlanta Preservation Center works to promote preservation of Atlanta's architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes.
