ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
An Atlanta man is lucky to be alive this morning, after firefighters had to rescue him from a burning building.
It happened at a home on Fox Street in Northwest Atlanta.
Atlanta firefighters said when they first arrived, the fire was so out of control they couldn't get in until they knocked some of the flames down.
Once they did, firefighters rushed in to find a man still inside.
They got him out, loaded him onto a stretcher and took him to Grady Memorial Hospital, conscious and breathing, but with some burns.
Assistant Chief Chris Wessels with the Atlanta Fire Department said the man was very lucky.
"For the amount of fire in this building at the arrival of the first units, it's a great thing we were able to find somebody alive and get them out in time," said Wessels.
The cause is still under investigation but this was likely an abandoned building where a homeless person was trying to stay warm.
