A man stole an airport shuttle early Sunday starting a brief chase in which the thief shot at responding officers.
Atlanta police say around 3:15 a.m. Joseph McHenry, 26, asked several taxi drivers and an international terminal shuttle driver at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport to give a him a ride to College Park.
After being denied by all, McHenry pulled out a pistol and ordered the shuttle driver off the bus. The assailant then drove off, ramming a taxi in the process and with police right behind.
The shuttle hit a transformer on the corner of Phoenix Boulevard and Riverdale Road causing a small brush fire. Atlanta and Clayton police pursued McHenry who fired shots at police as he fled.
He was finally captured at I-75 North and C.W. Grant Parkway.
There were no injuries to the shuttle driver or law enforcement, and police said airport operations were not affected.
McHenry was charged with hijacking a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm while in commission of a crime, and aggravated assault.
