Authorities in Douglas County report that a student teacher at a Douglas County School died in a car crash on Wednesday.
Georgia State Patrol said Shanel Little, 21, was in a SUV headed west on GA 166 on her way to school.
Just after 7:30 a.m., Little lost control of the SUV and traveled down an embankment. Her car also hit a tree, according to investigators.
The Douglas County Schools superintendent sent a statement to CBS Atlanta News.
"We are all greatly saddened by the tragic loss of Shanel Little. Although she had been with us for just a short time, I understand she had already begun to impact young lives in a very positive way," said Dr. Gordon Pritz.
Pritz said Little began her student teaching at New Manchester High School in January and had become an integral part of the faculty, making a meaningful difference with her sweet spirit.
The school system will provide additional support to the faculty and students as needed through crisis intervention teams.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Ms. Little during this most difficult time," said Dr. Gordon Pritz.
