Former chief justice of Georgia Supreme Court dies

Former Chief Justice Harold G. Clarke.

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Supreme Court of Georgia announced the death of former Chief Justice Harold G. Clarke.

Clarke served on the Supreme Court of Georgia from 1979 to 1994.

He passed away peacefully Tuesday evening with his family by his side.

"Justice Clarke was not only a great jurist, but he was a quiet, strong leader of principle and the kindest man I have ever known," said Jane Hansen, public information officer.
