As state lawmakers ponder whether or not to approve a House resolution that would create a path toward allowing northern Fulton County to break off and become Milton County, some leaders in Fulton County are voicing their staunch opposition.
"The fact is we need to be pulling ourselves together and figuring out how we can make ourselves even better," said Fulton County Chairman John Eaves.
Eaves is strongly opposed to seeing part of his county break off. The cities that would make up that new area include Milton, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell, Mountain Park, and Sandy Springs.
Rep. Mike Dudgeon of Johns Creek said it's time for his district to separate, and stop trying to get on the same page as cities and towns 40 miles to the south.
"We believe strongly that the best governance is closer to the people," said Dudgeon. "Getting Milton County to be separate, would be better governance and more responsive to the people."
