There is an open-door policy when it comes to bus safety at Legacy Academy at Berkeley Lake in Norcross.
They carefully check each seat and even use a flag system to make sure no child is left behind.
So how exactly does the flag system work?
"What our bus driver does is, when he comes in the red flag is up on his bus in the back. And when he picks the children up and drives them to their school or to field trips, and when he comes back, he has to go to the back of the bus and touch each eat seat and take the red flag off the back of the bus," Charon Simmons with Legacy Academy said.
Not all daycares are as thorough and that's why State Representative Sandra Scott would like to establish a universal safety system through House Bill 331.
The effort comes after 2-year-old Jazmin Green died a year ago after being left in a hot daycare van.
"I hope that it will send a message to all daycares around the world that safety should be first and foremost for our kids," State Rep. Sandra Scott said.
Scott would like to make it mandatory in Georgia that all daycares install child safety alarms in their buses or vans.
The alarm would sound when the vehicle is turned off and the driver would have to walk to the back of the bus to deactivate it.
"There should never be opposition in protecting our children, never. I think this is about safety of our children of our future and I think there's no opposition to it, there's no question," Simmons said.
Scott introduced the same bill last year, but it did not pass. She is hoping for a different outcome this year.
