Family loses home, firefighter injured in northwest Atlanta house fire

Mark Melvin/CBS Atlanta- A firefighter was injured while battling a northwest Atlanta house fire.

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

An Atlanta firefighter was taken to a local hospital to be treated for burns to his forehead after a devastating fire destroyed a northwest Atlanta home early Thursday.

Firefighters told CBS Atlanta News they believe the fire started in the furnace at the Verbena Street home just before 4 a.m.

Investigators did not say how the firefighter was injured, but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A man and his teenage son where able escape the home without injury, but the home is expected to be a complete loss.
