DeKalb County leaders said they will meet again in two weeks to discuss how to turn around the troubled school district.
"We're not going to just leave it up to the district alone to carry this burden," said CEO Burrell Ellis after a closed-door meeting Tuesday. "We're going to work in a partnership, a collaborative partnership."
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools put the district on probation for a lack of leadership, abuse of power and budget mismanagement.
Those at the meeting said everyone must get involved to help get the district back on track.
"Our job is to make sure at the end of the day each of those concerns raised in that SACS report are addressed and that every child in DeKalb County has access to a quality education," Ellis told reporters.
The district's new interim school superintendent, Michael Thurmond, did not attend the meeting. The CEO said Thurmond was called to a last-minute meeting with SACS. A SACS spokeswoman said the agency could not comment on what was discussed.
Governor Nathan Deal could remove board members at a State Board of Education hearing Thursday, but the board filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the state to stop the hearing. As of Wednesday morning, the judge had not ruled.
