200 Georgia Army National guardsmen deploy to Afghanistan

COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Georgia Army National Guard's 214th Field Artillery Battalion held a departure ceremony marking the start of its 12-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The ceremony took place at 1 p.m. at the Granite Bowl Stadium on Church Street.

The Elberton-based 214th Field Artillery is part of the Marietta-based 78th HRF.

More than 15,000 Georgia Guardsmen have deployed overseas since Sept. 11, 2001.
