NEWTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man and a woman were killed when their car crossed the center line on a Newton County highway and was struck by another vehicle late Thursday. Two others were injured in the crash.
Georgia State Patrol told CBS Atlanta News that a trooper spotted a Honda Accord traveling erratically and at a high rate of speed at 9:35 p.m. on Georgia Highway 36, south of Covington.
The trooper reported that the car was crossing double yellow lines to pass other vehicles. The trooper turned on his blue lights and siren and tried to get the driver to pull over, but the driver refused, according to GSP.
The driver, Donald Justin Barnes, 27, continued north toward Covington and eventually lost control trying to pass another car near Cedar Creek Drive. The trooper said the car rotated and was struck broadside by an oncoming Honda Pilot.
Both occupants of the Accord, Barnes and Kimberly Nicole Anglin, 30, both from Covington, were killed.
The driver and a passenger in the Pilot, William Nicolaus Tanner, 17, and Amy Michelle Daniecki, 18, both from Covington, were taken to Atlanta Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries. One was taken by ambulance and the other by Life Flight, according to officials on the scene.
