DECATUR, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
It's not every day a school can put up a sign that says ‘Welcome Mr. President."
College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center in Decatur did just that on Thursday.
People lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the commander in chief. The kids who got to greet him made a special effort.
"He came right by us and just to see the side of his face, it did something to me," Ora Lewis said.
The lucky ones Thursday were the little ones. Inside, the President greeted students with hugs. He sat in a child's chair to look through a magnifying glass with the kids.
"He was big," 4-year-old Mason Martz said.
Martz wore his best to meet the president, and said he was "super duper really excited."
Payton Sobon wanted the president to feel right at home. She sported a Chicago White Sox dress while he passed on a message.
"He just told us how well he wanted us to do to keep doing well with our work," Sobon said.
Parent Scott Larimore hopes his daughter remembers how special this visit was.
"It's just you get chills when you see something like this. It's just kind of a magical once-in-a-lifetime moment," Larimore said.
Anna Larimore said her favorite part was when the president, "sang our goodbye song with me."
Even the folks who just saw the president drive by said it's a day that will be ingrained in their memory.
"It was wonderful, such a beautiful day for Decatur," Clairee Jones said.
