What a tornado did to the neighborhood near Adairsville historic district is now sinking in for its residents.
"You remember like it was before it happened, and this comes through and changes everything," said Chris Brown, resident.
Brown's wife grew up along the street. They take care of an elderly relative who has lived in his house for decades. The roof was damaged, and the house sustained water damage.
Brown's relative, Joseph Ellis, was in his bedroom when a tree fell on the house, but he was not injured. Ellis has terminal cancer and is staying at another house until his is repaired.
"Everyone's got different feelings and different reactions," said Brown.
Brown is one of many who have gone from emergency recovery mode to starting to rebuild. He is going through insurance claims and contractors now.
While many of the volunteers who first crowded to help are gone, across the street, Earl Dutton was hard at work cutting up downed trees.
"We were lucky, and we enjoy helping," said Dutton.
Dutton is two months shy of his 80th birthday, but he is out helping every day. He grew up in Adairsville. The tornado missed his house, but damaged the chicken coops across the street. His son's home, which is on the same street as Brown's, was also damaged.
"The town's looking better a lot better," said Dutton of the past two weeks since the storm.
With the improvements on Wednesday, the Red Cross announced they centralized their disaster assistance to their Rome location.
