One Douglas County family who was waiting on baby No. 2 got a shock on Friday. The baby was ready before her parents were, and the mother gave birth inside her car.
It happened at a Shell gas station on Post Road just south of I-20.
"When you have your wife screaming and your 3-year-old next to you, and you're trying to listen on your phone outside you know the baby's coming. You didn't know who to listen to," said Brandon Favia, the father who helped deliver the child. "You didn't know which direction to go and you're sitting here and you're thinking, ‘I'm in a Shell parking lot.'"
Newborn Bryn wasn't waiting for anything; she was ready to make her entrance into the world. Her mother, Christy Favia, started going into labor.
"We got in the car as best as we could," said Christy Favia. "I just leaned the seat back and we started driving."
The Favias didn't get far, not even three miles from home, before the baby was ready. Big sister, Kai, 3, was along for the wild ride.
Brandon Favia pulled into the Shell gas station, called 911 and prayed that paramedics would soon arrive.
He helped partially deliver the baby, but medics arrived in time to finish the job. Now their little bundle of joy comes with an amazing story to tell.
"I was able to calm down and just, just did it," said Christy Favia. "The calming down happened fast."
"I was scared," said Brandon Favia. "We stayed strong and my wife stayed strong, and I'm really glad that everything worked out the way it did."
Bryn was born weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces and 19 inches long. Her parents joke that they might end up nicknaming her Shell.
