Many students at Clark Atlanta University are worried about their safety.
"I walk here, I take public transportation everyday and I have to experience violence on the streets," said Jackie Miller, a Clark Atlanta Student.
The heightened sense of concern follows a shooting Friday just down the street on the campus of Morehouse College. Police said 21-year-old Amir Obafemi, a Clark Atlanta freshman, shot Cornileus Savage, a Morehouse student. Investigators said the shooting was over a pickup basketball game.
"To take it to the extreme like that, where you actually have to harm somebody, I think that is bogus," Miller said.
On Monday, Dr. Carlton Brown, the President of Clark Atlanta, held a campus-wide meeting to address the shooting.
"One of our students has made some decisions that are contrary to our core values. He did some things that are totally wrong, there is no question," Brown said.
Many students who attended the meeting said they want more police on and around campus.
"Since I've been here, there have been situations where there have been shootings and robberies and stuff like that so I'd love to see more security," said Lashante Grigsby, a Clark Atlanta student.
"In every college campus in America, everybody wants more security. More security is not the ultimate solution to the problem. We are going to do everything that we know how to do and that we have the capability to do in collaboration with our partners in the Atlanta University Center as well as the Atlanta Police Department," Brown said.
