GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
An apartment fire displaced residents in four units at the Valencia Park apartment homes Saturday around 5 p.m.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a grease fire at 3600-F Springs Ln. in Norcross. When they arrived, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the kitchen of an apartment building with eight units.
Firefighters located the fire behind the stove in one of the units. There was substantial damage from the fire and from firefighting efforts in the kitchen of the apartment where the fire originated.
Gas and electricity were cut off to surrounding apartments. Residents living in the apartments where gas and electricity were cut off are being housed by complex management.
The Red Cross assisted five adults and two children whose apartment was damaged by the fire.
The fire cause was determined to be an accidental cooking fire by the battalion chief on the scene.
