The Georgia Department of Transportation says icing is still a problem in Habersham and Rabun Counties but has eased warning in most other North Georgia counties.
The agency is still advising motorists to monitor conditions before traveling on north Georgia roadways.
Several counties had significant snow accumulation on Ground Hog Day.
A winter storm warning went into effect Saturday afternoon for Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns Lumpkin, and White counties until midnight. Some areas saw accumulations from 2 to 3 inches of sleet and snow.
Snow was also reported in Dade, Walker, Catoosa and Whitfield counties.
DOT officials say their crews have cleared ice in most locations but they warn icing is still a danger on bridges, in shady areas and in higher elevations.
Motorists are urged to:
Stay off the roads unless it is an emergency. Choose caution and stay where you are instead of driving in hazardous winter weather conditions.
Slow down and stay behind the snowplows. The road behind the plow will be the safest place to drive. Allow at least ten car lengths between your vehicle and snowplows or hopper spreaders.
Do not pass. The plows are wide, and sometimes a group of trucks will work in tandem to clear snow quickly, especially on major highways.
Be particularly aware of possible black ice conditions on surfaces such as bridge decks and entrance and exit ramps until mid-morning when temperatures rise well above freezing.
Travelers are also advised to call 511 for updated information on roadways.
