Gwinnett County Judge Phil Wiley ruled Friday there was probable cause to move the case of Michael Snider forward to Gwinnett Superior Court.
Snider, 70, was charged with DUI and vehicular homicide following a string of 15 hit-and-run accidents along Highway 78 in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties on Jan. 23.
A Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy testified during Friday's proceedings that officers detected an "overwhelming odor of alcohol" after coming into contact with Snider the evening of Jan. 23.
One of the accidents he allegedly caused left a woman dead.
Deputy Rundles with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department also testified that Snider said he thought he was "in a video game" when questioned by an officer.
The hit-and-run spree ended when Snider crashed into a restaurant just outside of Snellville, at which point he was questioned by police, taken to a nearby hospital, and arrested.
His attorney, Christine Koehler, indicated after Friday's hearing that she has questions about how officers handled the investigation directly after the accidents.
"There are avenues that haven't even been explored by the police department," said Koehler. "We kept hearing things about the overwhelming odor of alcohol, and yet when there was some question of his mental stability, that hasn't been investigated at all."
A date for Snider's next court appearance has not yet been set.
