LILBURN, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A Lilburn couple and their pet dog were able to escape their burning home unharmed after being alerted to the flames by a working smoke detector.
The firefighters were called to the residence in the 700 black of Inland Way shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday. Crews found black smoke and flames already through the roof when they arrived.
Two adults were home asleep at the time and were alerted by smoke alarm. Firefighters were able to rescue the dog before intense heat and a partial collapse of the roof forced them to back out of the house.
Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge says the blaze appears to be accidental.
