ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Atlanta Police Department will be honoring Senior Patrol Officer Gail Thomas who was killed Jan. 24, 2012 by a drunk driver.
Thomas was directing traffic away from an accident at the Brookwood Interchange on the downtown connector in Atlanta.
She was hit by a 1998 Honda Civic driven by 22-year-old Chasity Nicole Jones.
Jones was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty.
The Atlanta Police Department posted a message on Facebook on Thursday:
"Today we honor SPO Gail Thomas who was hit by a drunk driver while on duty one year ago. She will always be remembered for her dedication to service and her heart-warming smile. We miss you."
