Water back on for Lithonia residents

LITHONIA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Residents in Lithonia have their water back on after a water main break Monday morning.

The pipe burst underneath Covington Highway near Phillips Road and it had water gushing out all over the road.

Shakenna Boykin was one of the residents to lose her water.

"It was very inconvenient. Let's just say that. We had to go to somebody else's house to take baths and all that," said Boykin.

Crews worked through the night and got water back on for residents around 3 a.m.

The timing of the fix couldn't have been better for Boykin because she had to go to work early.

"I am very happy, super happy. Glad to have water back," said Boykin.

Once the new pipe was set and the water was back on work crews immediately started to repair the road.

Dump trucks with gravel were brought in to fill the hole and by 8:30 a.m., all four lanes of traffic were back open again.
