A Stone Mountain Publix off Memorial Drive in the Memorial Bend shopping plaza is closing its doors for good.
The store's closing is not sitting well with loyal customers.
For 17 years Lovita Armour has been a loyal customer to her local Publix and she is disappointed it's closing.
"Yes I was disappointed because it's going to be an inconvenience," Armour said.
Armour is not alone in her disappointment.
Many shoppers are concerned about what the closure will mean for the elderly and poor.
Publix spokesperson Brenda Reid told CBS Atlanta News Wednesday the chain had hit rough times and didn't meet profit expectations.
Even with the community concern, the decision to close has been made.
"We have been meeting with the community and talking with our customers about it so we are not able to turn this ship around. We have been working very hard to try to do that but we were not successful," Reid said.
For Armour that statement doesn't cut it.
She claims the community has stood by the grocery chain in good times, and now during the bad Publix has decided to cut bait and cut its losses.
No jobs will be lost in this closing and all employees are being transferred to other area stores.
