Penson's car was hit by a train on Jan. 7 on the tracks
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
When a Norfolk Southern train hit a car on Tuesday in Douglas County, Pothole Patrol was hoping that train executives would finally open their eyes. Instead all eyes are tightly shut.
Tuesday's accident was the second collision in the past year at the intersection of Broad Street and Mozely Road in Douglasville.
Fortunately, the elderly victim, Marvis Penson, got out of her car in time.
But Penson is one of dozens of car or truck drivers who have misjudged the slope of the road, only to get their vehicles lodged between the tracks.
The crossing may meet railroad specifications, but the drop off is so steep and so easy to misjudge that even Douglasville's police chief agrees that something must be done.
