HALL COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A fatal, wrong-way accident partially shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 985 in Hall County on Tuesday morning.
The accident happened at about 6:40 a.m. near the Jesse Jewell Parkway exit.
A spokesman with the Georgia State Patrol said 80-year-old Raymond Sanford Reed, of Gainesville, entered the interstate headed south from the northbound ramp and was driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes.
About 150 from the ramp, Reed's LaSabre hit a Ford F-150 pickup truck head on. A Honda Civic then hit the pickup from behind and a passing semi that was trying to avoid the crash glanced the LaSabre, according to GSP.
Four people were injured in the accident, including the drivers of the Civic and the F-150, and two children, four and nine, the spokesman said. All have since been treated and released from Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
