GBI identifies victim in fatal Peachtree City house fire

Russell's home on Adams Fall

PEACHTREE CITY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The man who was killed in a Peachtree City house fire just days before Christmas has been identified.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the victim as 39-year-old Steven Russell.

The fire happened on Dec. 23. Firefighters arrived at Russell's home on Adams Fall around 5:20 a.m. and found the home engulfed in flames.

Because of the severity of the fire, firefighters were initially unable to find anyone inside the home.

After the fire was under control, investigators found a body inside, but it took several weeks to identify it as Russell.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
