A neighborhood group will consider whether to take legal action after Forsyth County granted Walmart a land permit.
The retail giant plans to build on Peachtree Parkway near Mathis Airport Parkway.
"The community is actually not pushing back on Walmart," said Robert Slaughter of Smart Growth Forsyth. "They're welcoming Walmart. They just want a store that's the right size that meets the requirements for the overlay."
Slaughter and others take issue with the land disturbance permit the county issued. He said the overlay or blueprint for the area requires 40 percent of parking spots to be located on the sides of the building. Slaughter said the county will allow Walmart to put the majority of its parking spots in front of the store.
"It's important because it's a quality of life issue for the people that live in South Forsyth County," said Slaughter.
Walmart still needs a permit to construct the actual building.
"You know this whole area as long as it looks nice and they do it right, that's what we want around here, is that everything stays looking nice," said resident Trudi Murry.
The county said the Walmart parking lot will be heavily landscaped and not draw undue attention.
Slaughter and his group fought Walmart in 2008 and the retail giant put the project on hold. He said they have several weeks to decide whether they will take legal action to get the store plans revised.
"We think it's like anything else," said Slaughter. "Once a precedent has been set then other retailers can ask for the same kind of treatment."
