BELLEVILLE, IL (CBS ATLANTA) -
The chief of the Belleville, IL Police Department has banned on-duty officers from eating at a local Denny's restaurant.
The move came after a manager at Denny's told a group of on-duty detectives they had to leave the restaurant or put their guns in their cars.
The officers identified themselves as detectives, but were still told to leave by one manager. A second manager told them they could stay, but at that point, they left because of embarrassment.
Denny's released a statement that says the restaurant permits law enforcement officials to carry guns, and Denny's regrets any misunderstanding.
Officers will still go to Denny's if they receive a service call.
