The Georgia State Patrol says six people died as a result of car crashes across the state over the holiday weekend.
GSP considered a 102-hour weekend period starting at 6 p.m. on Friday and ending at midnight Tuesday.
The agency reported 585 incidents resulting in 266 injuries. There were also 321 DUI arrests.
Jake Dale Daughtrey, 22, was ejected and killed and three others were injured when he lost control of his vehicle and overturned Sunday on I-75 in Lowndes County. GSP said the victim was thrown into oncoming traffic and was not wearing a seatbelt.
A Jefferson man was killed Monday morning when he lost control of his car on Benton Road in Jackson County. Brian Allan Churchill, 29, struck a fence, utility pole and tree when his car overturned. A passenger was injured in that crash, according to GSP.
On Tuesday at approximately 1:10 a.m., Desmond Leroy Hall, 30, was killed when he was struck by a car as he walked on Georgia Highway 77 in Greene County, according to GSP. The driver of the vehicle was charged with driving under the influence.
Cobb County police, Perry police and Macon police also reported fatal crashes during the New Year's weekend.
Last year there were 296 crashes and 172 injuries over the 78-hour holiday weekend. There were 13 fatalities and 262 DUI arrests.
