ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The new year will start wet in Atlanta.
A weather system is expected to move west-to-east across north Georgia on New Year's Day, bringing up to a half-inch of rain to the region.
"I'm expecting dry weather at midnight in all of north Georgia. Showers are, however, expected to move into far northwest Georgia by 2 a.m., from Rome-to-Dalton-to-Ellijay northwestward," said CBS Atlanta News Meteorologist Rodney Harris.
Rain is expected to eventually spread into Atlanta by 5 a.m. Tuesday morning with scattered showers continuing throughout New Year's Day.
No storms or severe weather is expected.
