The past year came and went with several stories dominating the news in Metro Atlanta.
Andrea Sneiderman dominated headlines in 2012 after being arrested on murder charges in connection with the death of her husband, Rusty, outside a Dunwoody daycare. She now awaits trial.
Another big story during the past year involved Aimee Copeland. The 24-year-old contracted a flesh-eating bacteria after cutting her leg during a fall from a zip line over a west Georgia river. Copeland had her left leg, right foot and both hands amputated, but still found a way to beat the odds.
"People say thank you so much for what you've done, and I'm like I didn't really do anything," Copeland said.
It also marked the end of a 19-year career for Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones. Plus, the Atlanta Falcons finished with the best record in the NFC at 13-3, and clinched home field advantage in the playoffs.
Also making headlines, two veteran police officers died when their helicopter crashed. Atlanta police say officers Halford and Smiley were in the chopper searching for a missing boy when their aircraft hit power lines and fell from the sky.
Finally, who could forget about 2-year-old Tripp Halstead? He suffered a severe brain injury after a tree branch fell on him while he was playing outside a Winder daycare. He's had several surgeries and is in physical therapy now. His mother, Stacy, spoke of how grateful she is for all the community support.
"Every little step is in the right direction," Stacy Halstead said.
