The manhunt is over for a suspected killer. The U.S. Marshals arrested John Kristofak at Motel 6 in Union City early Thursday morning. He's wanted for killing his ex-wife
A maintenance worker at Motel 6 swept up glass outside room 252 on Thursday morning. That's where police arrested Kristofak.
"I saw a whole bunch of police cars," witness Kayla Sims said.
Sims stayed back while U.S. Marshals and Cobb Co. Sheriff's deputies went to work.
"I just came into the room and periodically peeked my head out," Sims said.
Police work led them to the motel. Kristofak had been on the run since Saturday. That's when he's accused of showing up at ex-wife Donna Kristofak's Marietta home, going in her garage and stabbing her in the upper body, killing her.
"I watch the news every day like an old lady but I seen him, and the fact they were looking for him, and what he had done, but I had no idea he'd be out here," Sims said.
Early Thursday morning police busted into Kristofak's room through the window and door, where he put up a bit of a fight.
"Mr. Kristofak was non-compliant to lawful orders by police officers. It was quickly solved and he was taken into custody," U.S. Marshals Supervisory Inspector Gavin Duffy said.
Police found a gun in Kristofak's room. Duffy calls Kristofak a danger to the community.
"This case was unique in the emails that were being sent, we were really concerned for the general populace that he was unstable and willing to be suicidal and homicidal to innocent people," Duffy said.
Maintenance worker Maurice Wilson slept through the arrest. He said he's glad police got him.
"I found out we had someone out here that supposed to have killed someone and I'm glad they caught up with him because it could have been somebody else after that," Wilson said.
Kristofak served time in jail earlier this year after pleading guilty to stalking his ex-wife. Now he's charged with her murder and aggravated assault. Kristofak will go before a judge Thursday night at 8 p.m.
