ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Several major retailers planned to stay open later on Christmas Eve, as many procrastinating shoppers tried to finish off their last-minute gift buying.
"Sixty-eight percent of customers still have items on their Christmas list," said Ashley Hardie with Walmart. "There will be a lot of shopping going on, a lot of gift buying."
Walmart, as well as some K-Mart, Macy's and Toys-R-Us stores, were advertising extended hours on Christmas Eve, staying open until 8 or 10 p.m.
Toys-R-Us didn't shut down at all from Sunday night to Monday morning, and were not scheduled to close the doors until 10 p.m. Christmas Eve.
"I called to see what time they would be open," said Jean Mangan, who went shopping for a new blanket for her child at Toys-R-Us.
"They said, they haven't closed, and we'll be open until Christmas.'
Mangan asked if that was or if it was a joke.
