A Cobb County woman who was evicted from her home has found a new place to live thanks to Fulton and Cobb county officials.
It is a dream come true for Tonia Brower.
"I am in my brand-new house, I am officially moved in," said Brower, a Fulton County homeowner.
Brower says several weeks ago, moving into her own home didn't seem possible. A road-widening project forced her to move from the home she was renting in Cobb County.
"They didn't really give me a time frame so actually when they really notified me, I was out of town," Brower said.
Cobb County's Department of Transportation provided money to help Brower to move. Once she found the house she wanted, Fulton County's Neighborhood Stabilization Program contributed nearly $10,000 towards the price of the house and closing costs. APD Solutions, which bought and refurbished the formerly foreclosed home, will work with Brower over the next six years to make sure she is able to handle home ownership.
"All new appliances, the fixtures are new, everything to make that person feel like they are home. They can just move in with their stuff they don't have to bring appliances or anything," said Lolita Collins, with Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department.
"Every time we are able to put a brand-new homeowner in a home, it not only helps that homeowner from a wealth standpoint, but it also helps the surrounding neighbors' investment in the community and everyone feels good about it," said Vaughn Irons, the CEO of APD Solutions.
Brower is excited about what the future holds.
"I've been trying to hold back the tears all morning. When everybody leaves, I am just going into my room and just get down on my knees and pray and shed some real tears," said Brower.
Fulton officials say the county has acquired 109 properties through its Neighborhood Stabilization Program. If you'd like more information about the program and how to qualify click here.
