Victims identified in fatal crash involving 2 tractor trailers on I-75

BARTOW COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Several southbound lanes of I-75 are blocked near Cartersville after two tractor trailers wrecked, killing three people.

The accident happened around 1:50 a.m. on I-75 at mile marker 296, near Cass White Road.

A northbound tractor trailer being driven by George Benjamin White, 43, from Hiram, GA, according to Georgia State Patrol. The truck left the roadway on the left shoulder, struck a guardrail, then hit a concrete pillar support for an overhead sign structure on the southbound side. The truck then rolled onto its side and caught fire.

The sign structure fell and was hit by a southbound tractor trailer driven by Hugh Bruce Duling III, 58, from Powder Springs. The driver lost control and the vehicle left the roadway, traveling down an embankment.

Both truck drivers and a passenger in the first truck, 36-year-old Jermaine Duriel Smith from Douglasville, were killed.
